INTRODUCTION
Important:
To preserve the warranty and deliver the best possible installation to your customer, follow the instructions
in this manual.
Safety Warning:
Centiva vinyl tile contains no asbestos fibers. When removing existing resilient floor coverings, carefully
observe the following warning:
Existing resilient floor coverings and black asphalt adhesive may contain asbestos. Improper procedures
used to remove these products could release asbestos fibers into the air. Asbestos fibers, if inhaled, may
cause serious bodily harm. Do not sand or dry-scrape these materials. A preferred alternative to removal
is to install a new floor over the old asbestos-containing floor whenever possible. If removal of existing
floor covering is necessary, be sure that all precautions are taken and proper procedures are followed. For
information regarding proper removal procedures, please consult Centiva or the Resilient Floor Covering
Institute, 401 East Jefferson Street, Suite 102, Rockville, MD 20850, phone: 301-640-8580. Check state and
local laws regarding removal of asbestos-containing materials.
Product:
IFA manufactures Centiva homogenous and wear-layered products for heavy commercial or residential
usage. Centiva offers unlimited choices of color, texture, style, and design. Centiva can be installed on
concrete, over underlayment panels such as Structurwood, Multiply, and Masonite brand underlayments.
Particleboard, strand board and flake board are NOT RFCI recommended underlayments; therefore, they
are not recommended as a subfloor for Centiva tiles and planks. Concrete subfloors need to be tested to
determine if the concrete’s moisture content is within the specified parameters.
Imperfections:
IFA prides itself on not packaging any products with defects. All Centiva products are closely inspected
prior to shipping. If a defect is detected, the installer should contact the supplier immediately.
Labor Policy
Not Reimbursable: Claims filed for materials that were/are installed with obvious defects
Materials that were/are installed under improper conditions
Materials that were/are installed incorrectly
Materials that were/are used for any non-flooring purpose
Storage
and Handling:
Proper storage is necessary to ensure the best performance and appearance from Centiva tiles and
adhesives.

A) Storage temperature range 65 F. -75oF. Avoid installations with tile temperatures above 80 F. and
below 60 oF.
B) Loosely lay tiles in the room or area prior to spreading adhesive to observe overall appearance.
C) The installation contractor must check to make sure all tiles and adhesives are correct for the job.
D) Always lay tiles or planks flat.
Installation
Temperatures:
A) Acclimate to the site conditions for at least 2 days (48 hours) prior to installation.

B) Be sure floor level temperatures are between 65 F. -75oF. for a minimum of 48 hours before
installation, during installation and afterward.

PRODUCT CHARACTERISTICS
Classic Series*
Homogeneous:
Centiva manufactures homogeneous products for heavy commercial or residential usage. These tiles are
solid vinyl tiles with a standard gauge of 1/8” (3mm).
Multi-layered/Chip
Construction:
Specially developed products in multi-layered sheet form including a recycled backing and high-density wear
layer with a standard gauge of a minimum .30mil (0.8 mm) and/or chip construction throughout.
*Manufacturing of the Classic Series involves many handcrafted steps. This guarantees each tile receives a random,
natural look.
Event Series
Multi-layered &
Film Photograph:
Specially developed wear layered products are made with at least a .30 mil (0.8 mm) high density, clear PVC
wear layer.
All solid vinyl tiles, as well as the wear layer vinyl tiles and planks, have a standard gauge of 1/8”.

Textures:
Centiva is available in a wide range of colors and textures, reproducing the look of natural woods, stones,
ceramics and artistic designs. Textures include slate, smooth, granite, embossed, frost, tick and rustic.
Special attention should be paid when selecting a floor for your specific needs. All products can be
customized to fit your specific needs in other colors, sizes, surfaces and gauges. See charts for specific
textures and sizes.
Special Edge
Treatments:
Centiva special edge treatments include square edge, slight bevel, and regular bevel.
Applications:
All Centiva products can be used for commercial and residential use. The use of IFA adhesive is required in
order to validate the warranty for Centiva tiles or planks. Detailed instructions are listed in the installation
pages of the manual. After installation, a sealer and/or finisher is recommended for easy maintenance.
Samples:
Samples are cut from standard tiles and therefore do not correspond exactly to the pattern of the entire
tile. Samples may vary slightly from actual production runs. For critical color match, please check actual
production runs. Chain sets are available upon request. Colors shown in brochures and any other printing
are only as accurate as four color printing process will allow.

The following guidelines will help to ensure complete satisfaction with your installation by fulfilling these
requirements. Centiva tiles and planks are suitable for surfaces on above and below grade. Centiva can be
installed over concrete or wood subfloors.
1.0 SUBFLOOR PREPARATION
1.1 Testing
A calcium chloride test (moisture test) is essential on all concrete floors. This test should be performed in several areas: the
perimeter of the room, at columns, and wherever else moisture might occur. The moisture level from the concrete should
not exceed 3.0 lbs./1000 sq. ft. in a 24 hour time period. If the concrete exceeds the moisture limitations, the installation
should not proceed until the problem is corrected. A moisture problem can be corrected by sealing the concrete with any of
the many brands of concrete sealers available. After the sealer has been applied, always retest to ensure that the problem has
been corrected. A moisture test indicates the conditions at the time of testing only. The flooring contractor cannot be held
responsible if the moisture appears in the future causing adhesive failure. A new concrete floor contains a high percentage of
moisture; therefore, it must be allowed adequate drying time. This drying time normally requires 28 to 30 days, but it can vary
depending on several conditions such as the type of concrete used, average air temperature, and the thickness or location of
the slab.
1.2 Preparation
New Floors
Underlayment panels can be used to correct deficiencies in the subfloor and to provide a smooth, sound surface for Centiva tiles and planks.
There are numerous suitable underlayment panels such as Structurwood, Multiply, and Masonite brand underlayments. The
most common of these is ¼” APA underlayment grade plywood. Particleboard, strand board and flake board are NOT RFCI
recommended underlayments; therefore, they are not recommended as a subfloor for Centiva tiles and planks.
Always fasten underlayment panels in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations because any
failure of the underlayment or Centiva flooring as a result of the underlayment is the responsibility of the
underlayment manufacturer and installer. Suitable underlayment with a fully sanded surface and a minimum
thickness of ¼” is preferred. Always make sure that the subfloor is free of any foreign material such as dust,
grease, oil, polish, and loose material that may cause staining, telegraphing, or adhesive failure.
Concrete subfloors are acceptable as long as the concrete’s moisture content is within the specified
parameters.
A Portland based patching compound or leveler should be used to cover seams, cracks, indentations, and subfloor
irregularities. Calcium sulfate/plaster/gypsum based compounds are NOT recommended as they may harbor and promote
mildew growth, offer poor bond and adhesion strength, and/or have low indentation resistance.
1.3 Preparation
Existing Floors
Centiva vinyl tile or planks contain no asbestos fibers. When removing existing resilient floor coverings,
carefully observe the following warning:
Existing resilient floor coverings and black asphalt adhesive may contain asbestos. Improper procedures used to remove these
products could release asbestos fibers into the air. Asbestos fibers, if inhaled, may cause serious bodily harm. Do not sand or
dry scrape these materials. A preferred alternative to removal is to install a new floor over the old asbestos-containing floor
whenever possible. If removal of existing floor covering is necessary, be sure that all precautions are taken and proper
procedures are followed. For information regarding proper removal procedures, please consult Centiva or the Resilient Floor
Covering Institute, 401 East Jefferson Street, Suite 102, Rockville, MD, 20850, phone: 301-640-8580. Check state and local
laws regarding removal of asbestos-containing materials.
After removing existing flooring, make sure to remove also old cutback adhesive, grease, wax, or other foreign matter.
Painted and/or varnished surfaces must be sanded and dust free. In some cases old concrete subfloors must be shot blasted
and a floor leveler should be applied prior to installation. Poor subfloor preparation may telegraph later on through the
Centiva flooring causing visible irregularities. Between floor prep and start of installation, make sure to keep the floor dry, free
from dirt, dust and grit.

2.0 INSTALLATION
Before any installation takes place, please read the following information carefully:

All Centiva tiles and planks should be present at the jobsite for 48 hours at a temperature between 68-72 degrees F in
order to acclimate properly. Avoid installations with temperatures above 80 degrees F and below 60 degrees F. All
Centiva tiles and planks are duplications of natural or real products; therefore, shades and pattern variations will occur.
The Classic Series, including Coral Reef, Magics, Italian Style Marble, Concrete and New Terrazzo, achieves its natural
and realistic appearance through its variations. The Centiva Classic Series is a non-directional floor tile! The product
should be pre-blended before installation begins. This is similar to shuffling a deck of cards, and the purpose is to make
the different shades and patterns occur at random. As larger the floor tile (12” x 12”, 18”x 18” or 36”x 36”) less blend is
possible in ratio to the size of the room.

The Event Series with its products Ultrastone (Plaza, Rialto and Terra), Ultraplank, Plankwood and Harmony Line is a
multi-layered, solid vinyl tile and plank with a film photographic design and high density commercial wear layer of .30 mil
(0.8 mm metric). Please pay attention to the backside of the tile of Ultrastone. Plaza and Rialto have as standard a frost
finish surface. Due to light reflection, shine difference could occur if the tiles do not get placed in a certain direction.

2.1 Calculating
The number of tiles you will need:
Measure the room’s length and width. Multiply the width times the length to get the square footage. Measure all offsets and
alcoves separately, and add the square footage for each area to arrive at the total square footage. All Centiva products come
standard in three sizes: 12-inch squares, 18-inch squares and 36-inch squares. Each 12-inch tile covers one square foot, so
when you figure the number of square feet in the installation area, you already know how many tiles you need. Add 5%
allowance for cutting waste and always round up to the next full carton (45 sq. ft.).
An 18-inch tile covers 2.25 sq. ft. Simply take your total square footage and divide it by 2.25. Again, add 5% for waste.
A 36-inch slab covers 9 sq. ft. Slabs are mostly used for larger applications and waste should be considered between 5 – 8%.
Slabs are boxed in 90 sq. ft. cartons.
Centiva also offers other sizes, such as 9” x 9”, 12” x 18”, 12” x 36”, and 18” x 36”.

2.6 Laying Of The Plank
Spread adhesive following the specific recommendations for the adhesive
outlined in the Adhesives section of the manual. Place the first piece of
plank at the junction of the chalk lines. Continue to lay the plan, making
sure each plank is flush against the chalk line and tight against the adjoining
plank. Make sure the plank is well seated into the adhesive, paying special
attention to the edges. Lay row by row, or in a pyramid fashion.

Obtain a true 90o angle by using a carpenter’s square. Strike a
second line, which will divide the room into four equal parts.
Measure the distance from the center to the wall parallel to the
direction of the plank. Divide that measurement by the width of
a plank (3”). If less than half a plank (1 ½”) remains as the
border plank, adjust the point by 1 ½”. This will give a large
border along the wall and reduce the chance of having to cut a
small sliver of flooring to place along the wall.

Centiva Vinyl Plank features beveled and square edges to accent
individual planks and create a distinct plank effect. For this
reason, anytime you make a cut, you will want to place that cut
edge along a wall. Placing a cut edge against the uncut edge of
another piece of flooring will not look natural or realistic.
However, for special patterns, the floor may be installed cut edge
to cut edge and beveled edge to beveled edge for a consistent and
finished look.

Fitting the Border:
Measure the distance from the last plank in the row to the wall. Mark the
plank and cut it against the mark. Lay the plank in place, making sure the
cut edge is against the wall.

Fitting Around Irregular Objects:

Make a pattern out of heavy paper to fit around pipes and other
irregularities. Place the pattern on the plank, trace, cutting along the trace
lines with scissors or a sharp knife. Place the cut plank into position.

2.7 Useful Installation Tips:
•
Intricate cuts around door frames, cabinets, transitions, etc. It is always recommended to fit in prior to
spreading adhesive. See also adhesive pages.
•
Have several clean white cloths and a container of denatured alcohol or mineral spirits available for cleaning
off excess adhesive from the tile as you work. Any excess adhesive must be removed from the tile surface, in
between tile seams, or the surrounding area WHILE STILL WET. IFA’s D-2001 and IFA PS-5000 may be
cleaned with soap and water while still wet, BUT IFA’s EP-2000H may only be cleaned with mineral spirits or
denatured alcohol WHILE STILL WET. DO NOT ALLOW ADHESIVE TO DRY ON TILE SURFACE. To
obtain best results, dampen a clean cloth with cleaner and gently rub areas as to not move the tiles out of
place. Do not saturate the area with cleaner and make sure that you clean up any excess cleaning solution as
you go.

Never begin installation when all necessary tools are not available. (straight edge knife, curved edge knife,
ruler, trowel, roller, etc.)

3.2 IFA D-2001 Vinyl Plank & Luxury Vinyl Tile Flooring Adhesive
Description
& Data:
IFA D-2001 adhesive is solvent-free, non-flammable, freeze/thaw stable, and nearly odor-free. It can be used
where other adhesives might present potential health risks. It is suitable for office buildings, hotels, hospitals,
schools, restaurants, nursing homes, etc. IFA D-2001 adhesive contain one or more micro-biocides to inhibit the
growth of mold and mildew. IFA D-2001 can be used to install luxury vinyl tile and vinyl plank flooring over
porous floors. It exhibits quick grab, excellent moisture resistance, and spreads easily. DO NOT use over
existing resilient flooring or painted sub-floors. Not for use over non-porous floors such as sealed concrete,
metal, existing sheet flooring, etc. Only IFA adhesive is to be utilized for installing Centiva flooring.
Surface
Preparation:
Use on grade, above grade, or below grade (if the floor covering is recommended for below grade installations).
May be used over plywood and concrete. Use a high quality latex/Portland cement based-type patching
compound to fill or level any irregular areas. The floor must be sound, dry, and free from dirt, dust, old
adhesives, grease, wax, or other foreign matter. Painted or varnished surfaces must be sanded and dust-free.
Concrete floors must be fully cured, free from dust, moisture, excessive alkalinity, curing agents, and excessive
moisture vapor emissions (3 lbs. /1,000 SF/24 hrs.) On- and below-grade concrete must have a satisfactory
moisture barrier beneath the slab. Do not use IFA D-2001 where moisture is present in the concrete sub-floor;
moisture may retard or prevent the adhesive from setting. If applying over old cutback, all old adhesive must be
removed so that the floor is smooth.
Application:
The sub-floor, flooring material, and adhesive should be maintained at a minimum temperature of 68-
72 degrees F. for 48 hours prior to, during, and after installation. Apply the adhesive with a 1/16” x
1/16” x 1/16” square notched trowel in small sections. Apply only that amount of adhesive that can
be covered in 20 minutes. That open time will vary with the temperature, humidity, and porosity of
the sub-floor. For best results let the adhesive tack up before installing the planks or tile but install
them before the adhesive skins over or begins to dry. Position planks or tile firmly in the adhesive
without sliding them. Check open time periodically by lifting a section just laid to be certain that at
least 95% of the adhesive pattern has been transferred to the back of the planks or tile. If the
adhesive begins to set up or skin over, scrape it up and re-apply fresh adhesive. Roll each section
immediately upon completion with a 100 lb. sectional roller. Re-roll the entire floor after one or
two hours. Restrict heavy foot traffic or rolling loads for at least 24 hours. DO NOT WASH OR
WAX THE FLOOR FOR A MINIMUM OF 48 HOURS AFTER INSTALLATION.

Clean-up:
Store indoors only. Protect from freezing. Adhesive is freeze/thaw stable to 10 degrees F.
Prolonged or repeated freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided. Should adhesive freeze, allow to thaw
at room temperature and stir well before using. The finished installation must be protected from
moisture and/or freezing for a minimum of 48 hours. Not for use over non-porous floors.
Dried adhesive can be difficult to remove; take care to remove wet adhesive from the surface of the
flooring before it dries. Fresh adhesive (and dried adhesive on resilient flooring) can be removed
with a soapy, wet cloth. Dried adhesive can be removed from carpet with a non-flammable cleaning
solvent.

DUNE AND SANDSTONE.) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD IFA PS-5000 BE USED FOR THE
CENTIVA CLASSIC SERIES. It spreads easily, exhibits quick grab, and has excellent resistance to moisture and
plasticizer migration. Only IFA adhesive is to be utilized for installing Centiva flooring.

spreading the adhesive, roll it with a short nap roller dampened with adhesive to flatten the adhesive ridges.
This procedure will ensure that the trowel notch pattern does not telegraph through to the finished floor.
When using the “wet method” of installation test the adhesive to see if it has “strings” and is moist to the touch
before installing the floor covering. Check periodically to make sure there is full transfer to adhesive to the
back of the floor covering. When using the “tacky” method of installation, allow the adhesive to become tacky
before beginning the installation (adhesive should not transfer to the finger when touched). That set-up time
will vary with the temperature, humidity, and porosity of the sub-floor. To test, touch the adhesive lightly; if it
does not transfer to your finger, proceed with the installation. Place the tiles into the adhesive within two
hours of spreading. (Place carefully and accurately because the tiles cannot be repositioned easily). Within an
hour of installation roll the entire floor with a 100 lb. roller. Roll at least twice, once in each direction. Restrict
heavy foot traffic or rolling loads for at least 24 hours.

3.4 IFA EP-2000 Epoxy Adhesive (Solvent Free)

adhesives might present potential health risks. It is suitable for use in office buildings, hotels, hospitals, schools,
restaurants, nursing homes, etc. IFA EP-2000 is recommended for the installation of vinyl flooring products on
approved sub-floors. It is especially recommended for use on non-porous sub-floors.
Surface
Preparation:
Use on grade, above grade, or below grade. IFA EP-2000 may be used over structurally sound surfaces of
plywood (sealed), hardboard, concrete, and terrazzo. Use a high quality latex/Portland cement-type patching
compound to fill or level any irregular areas. The floor must be sound, dry, and free from dirt, dust, old
adhesives, grease, wax, or other foreign matter. Concrete floors must be fully cured, free from dust, moisture,
excessive alkalinity, curing agents, and excessive moisture vapor emissions (3 lbs. /1,000 SF/24 hrs.). On- and
below-grade concrete must have a satisfactory moisture barrier beneath the slab.
Application:
The adhesive, tile, and room should be maintained at a minimum temperature of 68-72 degrees F. for
48 hours prior to, during, and after installation. A unit of IFA EP-2000 consists of two (2) parts
labeled Part A and Part B. After opening each container use a can opener to cut the rims off both
containers. Thoroughly mix Part A and Part B separately. Combine the two (2) parts making sure
that ALL of the contents of one can is added to ALL the contents of the second can. Mix the two
parts together thoroughly until they are a uniform color. Immediately after mixing the two parts
together, pour the contents into an open, flat pan or on the floor (epoxy adhesive cures by chemical
reaction; the heat generated by that process reduces the open time and curing is accelerated if left in
the can). Spread the adhesive using a 1/16” x 1/16” x 1/16” square notched trowel. After spreading
the adhesive lay the tile into it immediately. Check open time periodically by lifting a section just laid
to be certain there is transfer of adhesive to the back of the floor covering. The open time will vary
with the temperature, humidity, and porosity of the sub-floor*. Use a kneeling board or work off of
the tile whenever possible. After installation roll the floor using a 150 lb. sectional roller, first in one
direction and then in a direction at a right angle to the first line of direction. THE FLOOR MUST BE
ROLLED BEFORE THE ADHESIVE HARDENS. Prohibit all traffic for 24 hours after installation to
allow adhesive to dry completely.

be protected from moisture and/or freezing for a minimum of 24 hours. Avoid traffic over the
finished floor for at least 12 hours after installation.
Epoxy adhesives cannot be removed after they set. It is recommended the installer have a bucket
of water and a clean cloth close by in order to remove any wet adhesive immediately that may get
onto the tile.

CHEMICAL AND STAIN RESISTANCE
This test was conducted in accordance with ASTM F 925, Resistance to Chemicals of Resilient Sheet Flooring.
By this test, a specified reagent is applied to the surface of the flooring material and allowed to remain in contact
for 60 =/- 1 minute. After the exposure of time, the reagent is cleaned from the surface using warm water and
the surface dried. Within 5 minutes after removal of the reagent, the material is visually examined and the
exposed area compared to the adjacent unexposed area.

PRODUCT WARRANTY
Including 20-Year Limited Wear Warranty
International Floors of America, Inc. warrants that its first line quality flooring material is free
from manufacturing defects (workmanship and/or material) and will replace defective floor
covering for a period of up to one (1) year from the date of purchase in accordance with the
conditions set forth below. If a manufacturing defect is found, the distributor or IFA
representative who sold you the flooring material should be notified promptly of the defect and
supplied with proof of purchase and the amount of flooring purchased.
Inspection by an authorized IFA representative may be necessary to verify that a manufacturing defect exists, or
you may be required to submit samples to the technical laboratory for analysis. IFA will repair defective areas
or will supply at no charge, new IFA materials of the same or similar color, design, and grade for the defective
areas for a period of up to one (1) year from the date of purchase.
If replacement is required in accordance with this warranty and the defective material or pattern has been
discontinued or unavailable, IFA reserves the right to select and supply similar IFA replacement material;
otherwise the same material will be supplied for replacement purposes.
Dimensional stability of IFA flooring material is only guaranteed when IFA recommended adhesive is used.
Limited Term Warranty: 20 years. IFA guarantees its product will not wear out for 20 years.
THIS WARRANTY DOES NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING:

Dissatisfaction due to improper installation, maintenance, or irregularities caused by the
subfloor.

Reduction of gloss due to use.
Discoloration due to improper maintenance practices, tar/asphalt tracking, water with high
mineral and iron content, grease and oil build up from cooking, carpets or mats with rubber
backing, dye transfer from rugs or carpets, or ground in dirt.

Damage due to stains, burns, cuts, gouges, scuffs, scratches, indentations, improper use of
furniture/floor protectors and other accidents or abuse.
Problems or damage due to moisture (including fungus discoloration), alkali or hydrostatic
pressure in the subfloor.

Color variations from samples or printed illustrations compared to the actual production runs.
Installation of flooring over particle boards, chipwood, or pressboard.
Installations where material was not installed with the recommended IFA adhesive in
accordance with IFA’s specifications and recommended usage.

Installation of IFA’s flooring products on grade or below grade concrete subfloors at sea level
or below sea level areas with an adhesive other than IFA’s recommendation.
Installation of IFA tile over existing tile, sheet vinyl or old existing concrete conditions.

This warranty is made solely to the original purchaser of IFA first quality flooring material and is not transferable
under any circumstances. This warranty is in lieu of any other expressed warranty. No representative,
employee, or agent of IFA Inc. or any other person is authorized to assume for IFA any additional liability or
responsibility in connection with IFA’s floor covering except as described above. Implied warranties or
merchantability and fitness for a particular purpose are limited to a period of one (1) year from the date of
purchase. In no event shall IFA be liable for indirect, consequential or incidental damages of any kind.
