Never unscrew the boiler cap whilst  
the unit is pressurised. Steam will  
shoot out and burn you.

Don’t get burnt by the irons steam,  
hot water, soleplate or iron rest.  
Keep children away from the steam  
station. And make sure they can’t  
grab the cords and pull the steam  
station down.  
Trailing cords are a hazard, keep  
them out of the way to prevent  
accidents.  
Never iron clothes being worn.  
Never put the steam station, cord or  
plug in liquid – you could get an  
electric shock.  
Always switch off and unplug the  
steam station before removing the  
boiler cap and filling with water.  
Don’t let the power and steam  
supply cords touch hot parts.  
During ironing pauses and after use  
always place the iron flat on the iron  
rest of the steam station.

Make sure your electricity supply is  
the same as the one shown on the  
underside of the steam station.  
Important – UK only  
The wires in the cord are coloured  
as follows:  
Green and Yellow = Earth,  
Blue = Neutral,  
Brown = Live.  
The appliance must be protected by  
a 13A approved (BS1362) fuse.  
WARNING: THIS APPLIANCE  
MUST BE EARTHED.  
Never leave the steam station on  
unattended.  
Never use a damaged steam station.  
Get it checked or repaired: see  
‘service and customer care’.  
Do not use the steam station if it has  
been dropped, or if there are any  
visible signs of danger or it is  
leaking.  
Note:  
For non-rewireable plugs the fuse  
cover MUST be refitted when  
replacing the fuse. If the fuse cover  
is lost then the plug must not be  
used until a replacement can be  
obtained. The correct fuse cover is  
identified by colour and a  
replacement may be obtained from  
your Kenwood Authorised Repairer  
(see Service).  
If a non-rewireable plug is cut off it  
must be DESTROYED  
IMMEDIATELY. An electric shock  
hazard may arise if an unwanted  
non-rewireable plug is inadvertently  
inserted into a 13A socket outlet.  
Don’t touch the appliance with wet  
or damp hands.  
Always unplug the steam station  
when not in use and allow to cool  
before moving or cleaning.  
It is extremely dangerous to direct  
the steam towards people or  
animals.  
Only use water with this appliance.  
During use, the steam station must  
be stable and used in a horizontal  
position.

This iron complies with European

2 Fit the cord cactus into one of the  
cord cactus locations. Place the  
steam supply cord into one of the  
grooves on the other end of the cord  
cactus. This will keep the cord in an  
upright position.

1 Remove all packaging and any  
stickers or labels.  
2 Wind excess cord around the base  
of the steam station.

1 Unscrew the boiler cap by turning  
anticlockwise.  
2 Use the funnel to fill the boiler.  
Maximum capacity when empty is  
0.9 l. Take care not to overfill if the  
steam station contains water.  
3 Refit the cap, don’t overtighten.  
3 Test the iron on an old cloth to make  
sure the soleplate and boiler are  
clean. We recommend that you  
allow steam to disperse by pressing  
the steam button in order to release  
any residues that may have built up  
during the manufacturing process.

The red low water indicator light will  
glow when the boiler requires filling.  
NEVER UNSCREW THE  
BOILER CAP AS LONG AS THE  
BOILER IS UNDER PRESSURE.

Carry out the following procedure to  
release the pressure:-  
1 Press the steam button until the  
steam stops coming out - this may  
take several minutes, then release  
the steam button.  
2 Wait until the red low water indicator  
light comes on, then press the  
steam button again to release any  
residual steam.

1 Place the steam station on the  
support of the ironing board or any  
other stable surface nearby with the  
iron sitting on the iron rest. Make sure  
the steam station is unplugged and  
that the power and steam supply  
cords are unrolled and not kinked.  
3 Switch off and unplug the steam  
station and wait 5 minutes.

4 VERY SLOWLY unscrew the boiler  
cap. If any steam is heard, stop  
unscrewing the cap and wait until all  
the steam has gone. Once all the  
steam has gone continue to slowly  
unscrew the cap.  
5 Use the funnel provided and slowly  
refill the boiler by pouring the water  
down the side of the funnel. Take  
care not to overfill.  
6 Screw the boiler cap back on until it  
is completely tight.  
7 Plug in the appliance. Wait for the  
green ready to steam light to glow,  
this indicates that the steam station  
is ready for use.

Before switching on the steam  
station, make sure that the lock for  
continuous steam is in the off  
position by firmly pressing the lock  
on the left hand side of the iron. This  
will ensure that the steam button is  
released.  
1 Plug the steam station into the  
power supply.  
2 Switch on, the blue light will glow.  
3 Turn the temperature control to the  
temperature you want, the light  
under the control will glow. When the  
iron reaches the set temperature, the  
light will go out. (During ironing, this  
light will go on and off as your iron  
maintains the right temperature.)  
important  
Never unscrew the boiler cap whilst  
the appliance is connected to the  
power supply and whilst there is  
pressure inside the boiler.  
Never unscrew the boiler cap during  
ironing.

Follow the procedure above for  
setting the temperature.  
Care should be taken not to press  
the steam button.

Follow the clothes label advice.  
Match the dots on the label to the  
dots on the temperature control. If  
theres no label, heres a guide on  
which temperature to choose:  
1 Make sure there is water in the  
boiler. Plug into the power supply  
and switch on.  
2 Turn the temperature control to the  
desired setting. For best results  
when steaming we recommend that  
the temperature control should be

Start on clothes needing the lowest  
temperature, then work upwards.  
(This lowers the risk of burning  
something because an iron switched  
from ‘hot’ to ‘cool’ takes time to  
cool down.)  
For mixed fibres, eg cotton ●●● and

It is possible to vary the amount of  
steam produced. If the iron is set to  
move the variable steam control to  
the left for minimum steam. If ●● is  
selected move the variable steam  
control to the middle and if ●●● is  
selected move the variable control to  
the right for maximum steam.

3 Wait until the green ready to steam  
light glows indicating that the correct  
pressure has been reached. This  
takes about 8 minutes. (Also wait  
until the temperature control  
indicator light has gone off.)  
During ironing the light will turn on  
and off - this is normal and indicates  
steam is generated in the boiler.

4 Before starting to iron or if you have  
not used the steam function for a  
few minutes or if you have recently  
cleaned the steam station, hold the  
iron away from your ironing and  
press the steam button several  
times. This will enable any cold  
water condensed in the pipes etc.,  
to be removed from the steam  
circuit.  
5 To produce steam whilst ironing  
clothes press the steam button. For  
continuous steam, press the steam  
button and then press the lock for  
continuous steam on the right hand  
side of the iron. To stop continuous  
steam, press the button on the left  
hand side.  
PTFE soleplate  
(model IC450 only)  
The soleplate can be fitted when  
ironing delicate items such as silk.  
Follow the instructions given on the  
packaging and keep them handy for  
future use. Always take care when  
fitting, particularly if the iron is hot.  
If the soleplate (Kenwood model  
ICSP01) is not included in pack it  
can be purchased separately by  
calling 0870 2413653 quoting part  
number KW675439.

one hand: hold the iron upright with  
the other.  
4 Tilt the iron forwards, then move it  
down the material, pressing the  
steam button.

When using the steam function, the  
green ready to steam indicator light  
will go off.  
It is possible to vary the amount of  
steam produced. Move the variable

6 If you need to refill the boiler during  
ironing, follow carefully the  
instructions given under ‘refilling the  
boiler’.

The red warning light will glow  
indicating that the level of water in  
the tank is low.  
Always ensure that the iron is facing  
away from the user and/or others  
when vertical steaming.  
For material other than linen or  
cotton, keep the iron off the material  
to avoid burning it.

Wool and velvet. Guide the iron 2 cm  
above the fabric, depressing the steam  
button. The power of steam smoothes  
away creases and revitalises the fabric.  
Do not pull the fabric.

Always switch off, unplug and allow  
to cool before cleaning or storing.  
There is no need to empty the boiler  
unless you intend to leave the steam  
station unused for a long period of  
time.  
Vertical ironing – suits, dresses and  
curtains are smoothed, renewed and  
put into shape again while they are  
hanging (see next page).

Don’t scratch the outside by ironing  
anything hard eg zips.  
To remove minor remains of material  
stuck to the soleplate, rub  
lengthways with a soft, damp, non-  
metallic cleaning pad.  
If the cord is damaged it must, for  
safety reasons, be replaced by  
KENWOOD or an authorised  
KENWOOD repairer.

To extend the life of your steam  
station and to avoid a build up of  
scale, it is essential that you rinse  
out the boiler after every 10 refills or  
once a month. If you live in a hard  
water area increase the frequency of  
cleaning. Do not use chemical  
descaling agents or vinegar as they  
may damage your appliance.  
Before removing the boiler cap  
always ensure the steam station has  
been depressured (see page 3).  
1 Fill the boiler with fresh water, rinse  
then empty.  
2 Always add 500ml water direct to  
the boiler after cleaning to prevent  
damaging the steam station.
