HEPA AIR FILTRATION SYSTEMS
Congratulations! You will quickly realize that you have purchased the
most effective air cleaning and treatment system available anywhere. It incorpo-
rates “state of the art” HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Arrestance) technology.
This is the equipment that respiratory specialists recommend.
Your AMAIRCARE Air Filtration System comes with a limited warranty.
With proper attention to its care and maintenance, you will receive a lifetime opti-
mum performance.
If your indoor air has abnormally high concentrations of particulate,
odors or toxins, the life span of the filter media may be shortened. Excessive par-
ticulate in the air will reduce the expected life of the HEPA filter as it will ultimately
restrict the flow of air through the unit. Under normal conditions the HEPA filter will
last from two to five years, and its ability to remove very small particulate actually
improves with use. The activated carbon media has a finite limit as to the amount
of odor or other gaseous toxins that it can absorb. Again, the higher the concen-
trations, the shorter the expected life. Normally, the first stage pre-filter should be
cleaned monthly and replaced quarterly.
As indicated above, the HEPA filter’s particulate removal efficiency
improves with use. However, the air flow through the HEPA filter media will ulti-
mately begin to decrease, thus lowering its ability to circulate and clean as much
air as when it was new. If the air flow through your unit is noticeably reduced, you
can inspect the HEPA filter by removing it and seeing if the filter paper is darkened
on the inlet or outer side. If it is, the filter cartridge should be replaced.
Please contact your local Amaircare dealer or call Americair
Corporation Customer Service Department at (905) 565-9488 regarding replace-
ment of filter media, warranty information or if you have any questions or con-
cerns about the performance of your AMAIRCARE Air Filtration System.
OPERATING INSRUCTIONS
With proper care and maintenance, you will enjoy many years of service
and dramatically improve the quality of your indoor air. The AMAIRCARE HEPA Air
Filtration System is designed to operate continuously and the unit should be left in
operation at all times.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. The unit may be operated in a wide variety of situations. Contact your HVAC
contractor for specific instructions.
2. Plug the unit into a grounded outlet (120 Volt, 60 Hz or 230 Volt 50/60 Hz).
3. Turn the unit on by rotating the control dial clockwise until you hear or feel it
click (Some 4000V and 5000V models only have an on off switch).
4. The unit will come on in the “HIGH” position. To Reduce the air flow, continue
to rotate the control dial clockwise.
5. To turn the unit off, rotate the dial counter-clockwise past the “HIGH” position
until you hear or feel it click.
CAUTION!
1. Make sure that the line cord is not in the path of people walking or where any-
thing can be rolled over it.
2. The unit should be leveled after installation by adjusting the leveler feet.
3. Locate the unit such that there is no possibility of moisture dripping on it.
Moisture could leak into the unit and damage the filter or electrical components.
4. The Air Filtration System discharges clean air through the duct connection on
the top of the unit at the back.
5. Before removing the door of the blower/motor section, disconnect the power
cord.
NOTE: You may notice a slight “new” smell from the Air Filtration System when you
first turn it on. This is normal and harmless and it will dissipate within a few days.
FILTER REPLACEMENT INSTRUCTIONS
The AMAIRCARE HEPA Air Filtration System is designed to run continuous-
ly. To ensure optimal performance, please carefully follow the Product
Information and Owner’s Manual Instructions.
FILTER REPLACEMENT INSTRUCIONS:
1. Read these instructions completely.
2. Unplug your unit from the power supply outlet.
3. Open the front door of the unit to gain access to the filter compartment.
4. Lift the rod that holds the filter in place and remove the metal plate covering
the end of the filter.
5. Remove the HEPA cartridges from the unit. NOTE: The carbon pre-filter and the
HEPA filter will contain contaminants. Remove them slowly from the unit in order
to avoid dusting.
6. To change the first-stage carbon filter, peel off the black pre-filter that sur-
rounds the HEPA cartridge and discard into a plastic waste bag.
7. Wrap the new pre-filter around the HEPA cartridge completely enclosing it with
the carbon blanket. Then peel off the paper backing of the adhesive strip on the
inside of the pre-filter and overlay the adhesive strip on the filter to seal it tightly.
The inner blanket (third stage filter) can be changed similarly however there is no
adhesive strip needed to hold it in place.
8. Replace the HEPA cartridge complete with the new pre-filter and inner blanket
(if changed) into the casing, making sure it is seated in the ring at the back of the
unit. Install the cover plate and the filter retaining rods.
9. After all of the filters have been replaced, replace the front door.
10. Plug in the unit and turn it on. For optimum performance set the unit to the
highest speed setting.
FILTER MEDIA
There are three stages of filtration in the AMAIRCARE Air Filtration System.
Air is drawn into the top of the unit through the duct opening above the front
compartment and is exhausted through the duct opening above the rear fan
compartment. The three stages of filtration are as follows:
STAGE 1: As air enters the air treatment system it first passes through 3/16” thick
activated carbon impregnated non-woven polyester pre-filter. This first stage of fil-
tration removes the larger particles of dust and adsorbs[JPS1]* gaseous contami-
nants.
STAGE 2: After passing through the pre-filter, the air then moves through a high
efficiency particulate removal filter. The “HEPA” (High Efficiency Particulate
Arrestance) filter media is laser tested to remove 99.97% of the particles in the air
stream down to a size of 0.3 microns. Particles of concern which are normally in
this size range include pollen, household dust, cigarette smoke, bacteria, animal
dander, molds, etc.
STAGE 3: The clean air stream then passes through a 1/2” inner blanket of activat-
ed carbon impregnated non-woven polyester filter material. This final stage of fil-
tering adsorbs additional gaseous contaminants such as odors and toxic fumes.
SERVICE LIFE
The useful service life of the filter media in the AMAIRCARE Air Filtration
System is directly related to the volume of air passed through the system and the
amount of contaminants in the air. In a typical residential application, the Stage 1
and Stage 3 filter media should be replaced every three to six months. The Stage
2 HEPA filter should retain peak performance for a period of two to five years,
again, depending on the amount of particulate in the air and the maintenance
of the Stage 1 pre-filter.
